Buying a motorhome is a big decision, however after you’ve done your research and have found the perfect one for you, it’s a decision that you will not regret.  If you have been thinking of buying a new motorhome for awhile now, then it’s time to find the perfect one that fits your lifestyle. Plus, right now is one of the best times to buy as I would consider it off-season for RVing because it’s winter and you’re guaranteed to get a phenomenal deal.

If you decide to purchase your new motorhome tomorrow or in a few weeks from now, you will be faced with the fact that you, yourself will have to drive that big rig off of the lot at ExploreUSA RV Supercenter all on your own.  And of course you can do it.  One thing is for sure, practice does make perfect, so get out there as often as you can. Here are a few great tips to follow:

One of the more important pieces of information to know is the height of your motorhome. Write this magical number down and place it somewhere that is visible from the driver’s seat; you never now when you’ll need to know this very useful information.

Next, you will want to sit in the driver’s seat and adjust it to your liking.  Take your time to ensure that you feel the most comfortable here.  Make sure you can reach the pedals comfortably as well as all of the controls.  Experiment with the different height and seat positions your captain’s chair has to offer and find the perfect fit for you. Once you have that done you’ll need to work on adjusting all of the mirrors. When you are adjusting them you want to see as much pavement as possible and the least bit of sky. I know it’s pretty to look at, but it’s not going to help you out!

Once you have that all figured out, it’s time to hit the road in your new Thor.  One of the more intimidating maneuvers while you are driving is taking a right turn. When you are taking a right turn, you will need to give yourself plenty of room. You may need to swing out just a little, but be sure that you have checked all around you so that you don’t hit anything or anyone.  Look out for curbs, road signs, pedestrians and small pets.

You also need to make sure you give yourself some extra room when driving the RV and not take any turn too sharply. A corner taken too sharply could result in great danger. The key thing is to give yourself a lot of room, time and patience.  You may get honked at, but better to be safe than sorry.

Once you have hit the road it is important that you stay between the white lines.  Sure this sounds simple and it really is, but to do this better, a good tip is to look up at the lines three to four cars ahead of you. By looking ahead you will naturally gravitate to staying in the center of the lane. .
