Tires and Your Motorhome Texas!

It is not a secret that the two things you will spend the most on your motorhome Texas are for fuel and tires, respectively.  Depending on what type of motorhome you are driving you could be  shelling out money for six and possibly up to 10 tires! That is a heck of a lot more than you would your car. But, for those that have been able to truly experience a motorhome whether it be a Class A, C or B, tires are are totally worth it. Not to mention necessary.

In order to keep your RVing costs down, doing proper maintenance on your motorhome tires is a must! The best way to do this is to make sure that your tires are routinely aligned. This can also help out with gas costs too!  If the tires on your motorhome are not properly aligned you can experience a range of problems from increased fuel consumption from increased rolling resistance, premature suspension component wear, excessive tire wear and unsafe driving characteristics.  A recent report showed that the majority of heavy duty vehicles that are on the road today are misaligned.

This is most definitley not a do-it-your-self task as there are many high-tech equipment used to get the alignment just right.  Computers are needed to get the wheels are aimed in the same direction by assessing and calculating all of the numerous factors and how they relate to one another. It has been shown that 70% of steer axle tire wear is caused by misalignment of the real axle.

Did you know that if your rear axle is out of alignment by just a fraction of an inch, that it will cause uneven tire wear on the front tires in a short amount of time? This happens because all of the wheels are not aimed in the  same direction and the misalignment travels over the distance of the wheel base multiplied by the number of miles driven and no wonder your front tires are in for it.
